Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Overnight Security/Housekeeping Runner to join our team! As an Overnight Security/Housekeeping Runner, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our guests and staff. The ideal candidate should possess a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and the ability to think quickly in high-stress situations. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

 

  • CUSTOMER SERVICE: Meet service quality standards that affect guest satisfaction; respond to guest questions or problems in a timely, professional manner.
  • WORK HABITS: Meet the hotel standards for work procedures, dress, grooming, attendance, and punctuality; report to work and return from breaks on time; give advance notice when absence is anticipated; require typical amount of supervision; accept work assignments without complaints.
  • PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT: Accept opportunities to learn new skills, improve performance or cross-train for other hotel positions; solve routine problems that occur on the job; ask questions when not sure how to complete something; learn new skills as quickly as most others in the same job.
  • SAFETY AND SECURITY: Be alert to hazards and responsible in carrying out hotel’s safety, security, and emergency procedures; suggest ways to improve safety conditions that reduce or prevent accidents and injuries; participate on safety committee or other special projects for safety; actively seek and report potential security risks or hazardous conditions.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  • Check vacant rooms.
  • Deliver newspapers and pick up express menus.
  • Ensure that policies and procedures are enforced.
  • Ensure that property/facilities are energy efficient (conserving energy).
  • Ensure/maintain key control.
  • Maintain current CPR certification.
  • Constantly. Maintain work area clean and organized.
  • Make safety and security patrols of property and facility. Promptly, report to management any unusual observations.
  • Protect guests and employees from harm and prevent theft and/or destruction of property.
  • Constantly. Report all unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Write shift reports and security incident reports.
  • Process and log lost and found articles.
  • Confront guests and employees involved in unsafe/illegal acts.
  • Investigate/handle complaints, incidents, accidents, and emergencies.
  • Monitor equipment.
  • Perform duties of Guest Services, Engineering, and Housekeeping.
  • Perform life-saving functions as required (CPR/first aid).
  • Attend all mandatory meetings.
  • Occasionally: Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • SITTING: Occasionally. Sitting in a backed chair behind a desk, report writing and interviews.
  • STANDING/WALKING: Constantly. Patrol grounds and hotel on asphalt, cement, carpet and gravel up to ten miles per day.
  • CROUCHING (BEND AT KNEES): Occasionally. Picking up trash, delivering newspapers, assisting other employees.
  • KNEELING/CRAWLING: Rarely. Checking locks.
  • STOOPING (BEND AT WAIST): Occasionally. Picking up debris, delivering newspapers.
  • TWISTING (KNEES/WAIST/NECK): Occasionally. Doing surveillance.
  • CLIMBING: Occasionally. Climb stairs and ladders.
  • BALANCING: Occasionally. Newspapers and trays.

ENVIRONMENTAL SETTING

 SAFETY REQUIREMENTS (I.E., CLOTHING, SAFETY EQUIPMENT REQUIRED, ACTIVITIES PERFORMED): Constantly. Adhere to safety standards and procedures.

  • EXPOSURES (FUMES, CHEMICALS, VIBRATIONS, HUMIDITY, COLD, HEAT, DUST, NOISE): Frequently. Extreme heat and cold for extended periods. Contact with cleaning supplies, maintenance supplies, newsprint, pollen/dust, and insecticides/herbicides.
  • OPERATION OF EQUIPMENT/TOOLS/VEHICLES: Operation of electric carts, and vans. Also boiler alarm panel, and chiller panel.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required  
  • Prior security/law enforcement experience, hotel preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Read, write and speak English fluently
  • Ability to remain calm in high-stress situations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and first aid/CPR certification preferred
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
