Overview

The Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort is undergoing an exciting transformation and will soon relaunch as The Sunny, a destination embodying luxury, comfort, and sophistication. We are looking for a skilled HVAC/Mechanic to join our engineering team and contribute to creating a seamless guest experience in our newly renovated property.


As an HVAC/Mechanic, you will be a key player in ensuring the comfort and safety of our guests and staff by maintaining and repairing all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and mechanical systems within the hotel. Working closely with the Chief Engineer and the engineering team, you will perform preventative maintenance, address service requests, and ensure optimal functioning of all related equipment during this exciting transition to The Sunny.

The future Sunny in the heart of Sunny Isles Beach is poised to redefine the beach getaway experience offering a perfect blend of rich history and unparalleled amenities. The resort will feature 339 spacious guest rooms, an eclectic private art collection, six food and beverage outlets, a fitness center, spa & salon, ocean-front pool with tiki bar and fire pits, beach club, and over 22,000 square feet of event space, including a unique oceanfront terrace. 

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, including air handlers, exhaust fans, chillers, and boilers, ensuring all equipment operates efficiently and meets safety standards.
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on other mechanical systems such as pumps, motors, and refrigeration units.
  • Execute the hotel’s preventative maintenance program to extend the life of HVAC and mechanical equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts as necessary.
  • Quickly diagnose and repair malfunctions in HVAC and mechanical systems to minimize downtime and guest inconvenience. Promptly respond to guestroom climate control issues.
  • Monitor and adjust building automation systems (BAS) to maintain optimal performance and energy efficiency throughout the property.
  • Keep accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including system logs, maintenance requests, and inventory of spare parts.
  • Ensure all HVAC and mechanical work complies with local and national codes and hotel safety standards. Implement and follow lockout/tagout procedures as required.
  • Partner with the engineering team on large-scale projects and renovations, including the installation of new equipment and systems, contributing to the hotel's transformation into The Sunny.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an HVAC Technician or Mechanic in a hotel or commercial building environment.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.
  • Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS) and energy management principles.
  • Understanding of local and national building codes and safety regulations related to HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Certification in HVAC or a related field preferred.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks that may require standing, bending, and lifting heavy equipment.
